Sandra Adcock's answer to: Hypothetical Questions: Would the world be a better place without Islam? on Quora

I MAY get a many negative replies for this. First, let me state that my church affiliation is Southern Baptist. I went to the Wesley Foundation in college; BS degree at SWOSU. I tried to volunteer at a Baptist cause doing anything and was turned down. Called my old director at the Wes foundation and ended up doing 12 years volunteer at Skyline Urban Ministries in the Food Pantry and working on their computer data base of services. Are we better without ISLAM? No. I may disagree with this religion. God, what I believe in the Judeo-Christian sense, is their God to in my belief. What we do not bring to the table in complete devotion; we could learn a think or two from this religion. Praying 5 times a day. One may argue this is going through the motions. Could be or not. What man is high enough on the list of being un-stoneable to decide this? Would be better off without Christianity? Remember when we start asking questions of others; they can reverse the image we see in the mirror. Does anyone get what I am saying?

Tribute to a professor, WHERE YOU REALLY HAVE A PRAYER!! TIS TRUE.

http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=53644897&trk=nav_responsive_tab_profile W. Steven Pray, Ph.D., D.Ph, M.P.H. *********************************** Pray was my professor in pharmacy school. While attending school clearly his path consisted of the same harmony Simon & Garfunkel shared in his colleague, Edward C.Christensen. Any person affiliated with SWOSU Pharmacy School during Christensen's time there will understand this statement. Practices used by Pray to instill required up to date information always included cutting edge technology references. Motivational speaking flows naturally in his teaching style evident in his passion for pharmacy, community and genuine desire to pass those qualities to his students. I am sure I remember him expressing The Golden Rule essentially contained all the guide a person needed in the practice of pharmacy. Pray lives by this concept I believe one hundred percent. Pray is tremendously familiar in the conception of continued guidance; plus, overall charity. During my career I turned to him with questions more than once. His actions were to supply advice, direction to help, or answer my questions. Standing beside Mr. C, he demonstrates ethics, integrity in pharmacy and the heart of SWOSU Pharmacy School I want to remember more than any other professor. SWOSU's luck and thankfulness to have such eminence warrants better recognition.less March 6, 2013, Sandra studied with Dr. W. Steven at Southwestern State College

ra, I agree with you 100%. It also brings up another hard habit to break. Learning to put up huge boundaries. Plus, going against most of what I was taught. Being brought up to work hard give over 120%, care, and be ethical; the question is how do I teach my son to be a good Christian in a world where many that teach ethics only play the part? I am ashamed of many that I used to hold high in esteem. Mc-Pharmacy isn't for me. I am blessed that I can walk away from this in a way. My husband is lucky to work in an environment that is somewhat better at allowing a family life. He is a pharmacist too. Do you think we should be doing vaccinations when there was no time to do the work of filling prescriptions already on the plate in retail? This practice should be a part of our realm in specific settings. 1. A pharmacist is part of a clinic and this duty does not pile more pressure on that increases the chance of errors. 2. Rural areas where distance to clinics or health departments makes vaccinations a problem for the population. A. Off peak times for retail should be picked to reduce chances of errors. B. To show that pharmacists are on the same side and the patient is at the center of our concern, if there is more than one pharmacy in town a rotation makes sense; or, maybe allowing interns to work with a nurse or PA at this time could be of benefit. Also, working with the health department to have them come in on a rotation basis every other time or on times when some pharmacists are off to go to schools as volunteers. I had been in what I thought was a good relationship with a person on the Board of Pharmacy in my state. I even worked for him. I respected him because he always told me to be honest. Insurance says never to admit guilt. Below is a speech that is something I felt in my heart and worked because of that: Hi ___________. I am not sure what is wrong. Let me start over with you. I promise to get to the bottom of this. If you can start over again, I will do everything in my power to correct and make sure your interests, health, anything I can do to reassure you we care, I will do it. I am human. However, I have tried to practice as if I wanted my family to be treated the way I wanted. Some generics have reasons for staying with the brand. If I follow that guideline, then I feel I will be able to live with myself knowing I have done my best. If something does go wrong, I try to improve where the problem went south and correct my procedure or way of processing work. If I fail to do this......time to check out. Now the workplace as well as the regulations are doing this for us. It almost impossible to do the job the way one should in and out on a daily basis satisfying regs and bosses. My sister is a Cytotechnologist. She screens for cancer under a microscope and with a computer program does advanced work to aid the docs in treatment plans. Laws limit how many slides can be screened in a day or hour. How come there are none of these regs for pharmacists? I was in the middle of or almost complete on a business plan, but now face one surgery in July(so late because of insurance rules) and most likely another right after that. Guess God will let me know when to move forward. I could say plenty more but need to rest my hands.

SUMMARY CONCLUSIONS AND SWOT

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS Is there anything new under the sun? Some will say no others will argue technology advancements are. Proponents of the alien visitors to our ancient world and as either the inspiration for the building of the different pyramid styles or builder themselves disagree about the technology argument. I think society does have a DYSSEMIC CONDITION of wanting people and culture to be conformist. Basing business on a specific science that purports to have ethics but when confronted evades the issue is problematic to me. Facebook’s leader in the book and case is a people person and has built a culture great for people to work in where one would think ethics would prosper. This same corporation has been pulled on the carpet for privacy issues and pointing the finger via a third party. Two- facedness of the business and governmental organizations along with some of my working experiences kicked me into gear to try my hand at a home based business. I stand by my statement that having an ethics matric decision guide makes about as much sense as leaving a two year old toddler in an unfenced back yard to play alone. People have to have a basic moral/ethics/value system in place or taught to them in order to make decisions of this nature. A policy statement is a must if for nothing else than a person to know what can and can’t do in an organization. If an employee (member of your organization) has no moral compass then teach him/her the basics. If somebody has to use an ethics matrix then it obvious to me they have no basics. What are you or I going to do if it this person represents us and is in a compromising spot where a snap decision has to be made without a handy dandy ethics matrix decision? 12 STRENGHTS/WEAKNESS SWOT HOW TO LOOK AT THREATS/OPPOUTUNITIES S GENUINE, LOYAL, ABILITY TO TAKE FEEDBACK, RECOGNIZE WEAKNESS & IMPROVE ON THESE AREAS OR GET TALENT NEEDED, PASSION, DETERMINATION, TREAT PEOPLE FAIRLY, TALENTS IN VARIOUS AREAS, MAINTAIN CONNECTIONS FOR YEARS, SEEK TRUTH, SEE FAILURE AS CHANCE TO LEARN, P W PASSION SOMETIMES TURNS TOO EMOTIONAL, TOO HONEST, LACK OF ABILITY OR BITTER TASTE FOR FINNER PLAY OF POLITICALS OR GAME PLAYING IN ANY TYPE OF REALTIONSHIP, ABILITY TO READ PEOPLE OR BODY LANGUAGE AS GOOD AS MIGHT, LOST SOME OF MY WHAT THE TEXT CALLS SURGENCY WITH AGE 0 SEE THE LOSS OF TRUE CARING AND GENUINE INTRESTS IN PEOPLE AS CHANCE TO BUILD BUSINESS ON NICHE MARKETING AND USE EVERY SKILL DEVELOPED AND LEARNED IN LIFE IN PROCESS, HAVING NEVER TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE CAN NOW USE ALL LIFE CONNECTIONS TO GAIN IN ROADS TO ACCESS OF PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES BUT WITHOUT COMPROMISE T FEAR PEOPLE HAVE OF CHANGE, INDUSTRIES BUILD ON KEEPING INFORMATION THAT IS FREE REPRESSED, AND THOSE THAT HAVEN’T DONE THEIR JOB DO NOT WANT TO ROCK THE BOAT, EXPAINING CHEAPER WAYS OF DOING THINGS IS GOING TO RAISE MORE COMPETITION INFER THERE ARE SOME THINGS TO WORK AROUND AND BE AWARE OF MY LIFE DOES DEPEND ON HAVING AN INCOME AND THE BAIC COSTS OF MY BUSINESS ARE FEW, THIS BUSINESS WILL HELP ME BE THERE FOR FAMILY

LEADERSHIP LEGACY

What do I want to be remembered for as a leader in the professional and personal arenas of my life? Do I want or care about being remembered? Why should I care about this? If I care what are the things that are worth thinking about what other people think in the future about my past? What relevance or manifestation does this relate to my leadership skills and ability in the present? Is this workout futile because of the nature of pride and sinful thoughts that center near this line of investigation? On the high road, if I were to answer any of the questions above positively, I think acting as the leader God intended would be what I hope I had done. Exiting this world with the knowledge I had accomplished this getting out his message would be thrilling for me. If my convictions are true, then building a business model to help the most vulnerable populations in society that was successful within the ethical and moral teachings laid out as I understand them would be of value to show for my time on this Earth but more than that the glory should be his and others. Personally, I want my son to remember me in the loving sense. Yet, if this is not possible because I have had to be the one to play more of a preparatory role in helping him to have a life he would be happiest with, then that is okay. Then my legacy is represented by him being independent enough to stay in our house where he can have choices of what pets to have, ability to go to the movies and actives he enjoys like being on his computer with internet access. This life is nonexistent in most group home situations.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Getting back to the course addressing what the exercises, readings, and text information can be used to fine tune my personal leadership development and action plan. The appendices explain my interpretation thoroughly in my opinion. I have expressed my opposition with reasons for opting out of some of the assignments. Skill Development 2.1 is the one that I chose to exclude. Self-Assessment Exercise reveled over all my potential for management was on the high end. A lack of drive name Surgency and Agreeable could be things to work on. I put in my profiles at a time where I was beginning my professional career and now. I think this shows how age and time change people in general some call it wisdom but a simple term I have heard is “the school of hard knocks,” references learning from experiences. You can review my final thoughts on each exercise. Subscribing to the Big Five and personality testing is a failure and a dependence on what I consider to be a flawed science and a profession with serious ethical considerations that needs to clean up their act. Now this refers mostly to personality testing. Relying on case histories and principles history has taught us would be a better way of looking at organizations. Our country stood up and wrote a document that unveils a script for how to treat people like equal and fair. That said throwing all of this out the window would be a completely egotistical aggressive act. Examining Theory X versus Theory Y taught me there is a time that one must exert a coercive power. It was pleasant to find out that these instruments showed I leaned to participatory, delegation and as I stated in the previous section and paragraph fair and equal. I 8 do not have a need for power. However, I am not afraid to make a decision the situation demands this. My need for achievement and motivation based on this can reflect self-centeredness. This contradicts the assessments that show I can delegate and favor participatory styles of leading. Disagreeing already with the idea of how the authors can make politics an official skill to develop, it is not surprising this is something I need to work on from the information on the exercises. Networking scores were just above political skills in the exercises. It is very hard for me to ask people for things. It goes against my basic conceptions. I am a good listener according to these assessments. Then it going right on to whether I am on the in or out group lands me just inside the fence of the in group. I stated and know that it shouldn’t be but my respect for a person sometimes clouds my ability to want to be in or out. It will not keep from performing my duties or job correctly. Being a team player currently has low appeal for me. Corporations and small business I have worked for had a two faced culture with many of the employees and management. The interaction I have had with those charged with connecting tax payer supported groups and government agencies designed to help those in need reveals a monstrous bureaucracy that should be cut back by trimming or killing. A pleasant surprise was finding out I have Transformational Leadership qualities. Actually I have characteristics of a Charismatic and Transformational but think the former is more accurate than the other. This will come in handy when I form and build my business. Negotiating skills, understanding basic needs and how motivation is met are things I can take away from this course. I think the research done in these areas is spot on. God said 9 “Feed my Sheep.” Studies have shown that children under nourished learn poorly. If the basics aren’t met first there will be no going anywhere else. Understanding people past this is important. PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

Here is my rewording of the textbook definition during the course work. “In a business or organization the function is to obtain results through the people following the leader’s ability to respond to stimuli in the environment occupied by the organization to obtain organizational objectives. If change is not needed, as interaction via interpersonal between the leaders and followers suggest, then a leader should comprehend this and reward behaviors that are in the best interests of the organization.” A few factors directly dramatically shape my personal philosophy on leadership. A full wide range of these dimensional variables appear following the end of this sentence. The first talks about how each person is blessed with various talents. The second one reminds me that when tempted to judge others it is wise to look at myself or take a self-inventory. All of the rest of the things stated are important because I feel they are the variables that drive and form my personality that roles into how I lead. Leadership to me is the bundle of these factors coming together when I am in charge of directing, guiding or teaching either in work, parenting, in general as a Christian and or volunteer work whatever the task is. What role leadership plays in my life goes from; parenting, as a pharmacist helping a patient with education on their medication and possible interactions and a part of his/her health team member, in the work role besides that task there is leading others and management roles as the book said being an example to others, making sure the area I am in charge of runs as it should, and in the future because of the experience I have had working and as a customer I will launch a business. 7

A prescription for the development of the SWOSU Rural Health Center and Pharmacy Residency Program.

A prescription for the development of the SWOSU Rural Health Center and Pharmacy Residency Program. TABLE OF CONTENTS Executive Summary…………………………………………………………..1-2 Planning……………………………………………………………………….3-4 Design………………………………………………………………………5-6-7 Development………………………………………………………………..5-6-7 Implementation/Maintenance………………………………………………5-6-7 Executive Summary The first challenge to face is bringing all of the stakeholder’s interests to the pharmacy counter; while following all the mandates in the design of a program and mission statement that encapsulates them. Employers insurance companies, PBM’s need to be identified and asked for their “two cents worth.” The planning for this program will first require research. In identifying the mission, stakeholders, customers, and narrowing the focus are the first phase. Second, I would look at the competition and what requirements are mandated by specific programs. AHQR, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, are just a few to start. Hospitals have JACOH which has extended its reach. The state has regulations. Design, development and implementation will be influenced by the planning. The input from the stakeholders, funding, and such can determine this area as well. Measurement and implementation are variables of parameters set by the funding, health regulator groups, stockholders and how outcome measurement is to be guided by the above parameters. Maintenance of the program is contingent on how funding grants run, if an endowment trust can be set up, and the commitment of the University, College of Pharmacy, and other interested groups. I can see a number of ways to place this program apart from others. Many do not cost anything. It is time to use what tax dollars have been investing in for many years that often goes to waste. Producing a model for streamlining use of information, showing where duplication exists as well of waste could be an additional bonus. IT APPEARS AS IF SOME INFORMATION HAS BEEN LEFT OUT. I WILL BE HAPPY TO FILL THOSE IN FOR YOU AND SHOW YOU WHAT I HAVE TO BRING TO THIS POSITION. 2 Planning This occurs after there is a clear mission/vision statement. A team has a rough idea of a time line. Assignments and roles have been given more thought. This allows for a direction to be pointed. Concerns and dreams should be noted. Again the first thing to do is more research. What to the other residency programs offer? How long have they been in existence? Is there any faculty on staff that has knowledge or experience with them? At OU? How about Rural Health Centers functioning under the new national office? Where is the State Office located? Funding and grants for the program? On and on? Kansas City VA Medical Rural Residency Program Ambulatory Care Residency Program Newsletter: November, 2011 talking about focused expansion of rural programs. Healthcare in Urban and Rural Areas 2006 AHQR report. Health Affairs: At the Intersection of Health, Health Care and Policy “Creating a Framework for Getting Quality into the Public Health. Texas Tech Pharmacy Practice Residency 2009 ASHP Midyear Meeting Lemke Rural Review Case and Handout Profiles of Progress 2009 State IT Indicatives National Rural Health Association Issue Paper: Recruitment and Retention of a Quality Health Workforce in Rural Areas :A series of policy papers on The Rural Health Careers Pipeline Number 3: Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians A number of other sources examined by me. Funding must be considered before any undertaking can be planned. Money is needed to start the program, build, maintain, guarantee the advancement, and provide for the longterm future of the program. Starting with the Office of Rural Health makes the most sense. AHQR Health Human Services (A Number of Different Agencies to look for funding under which I have a good idea). Oklahoma State Grants Foundations Other Federal Agencies ( Again I have ideas here) Pharmacies Groups Foundations Churches and Faith/Biased Federal Initiates (Also State Office for this) 3 Forming Campus partnerships to further SWOSU and increasing our social equity on campus is another area of planning to explore. There are at least six areas that could be expanded to serve students and possible ground breaking areas for these departments to provide experience based involvement in learning based curriculums. Social Services Public Relations Journalism Business PHARMACY Writing Services– Fellowship in Grant Writing Community Nonprofit Administration Setting up state, regional and local meeting to explore the input and needs of health care workers will be necessary. What directions do these stakeholders see us going with our vision? How will this impact the planning, development and implantation? Are they willing to contribute funds? What is Person Center Thinking? What resources are there to help us learn about this and expand this culture that is prominent in the Federal program thinking to our students and other stakeholders? http://ddti.unc.edu/pct-training.html http://elpnet.net/person.html http://www.qualitymall.org/directory/dept1.asp?deptid=23#org http://www.communityworks.info/ Check with the Center for Learning and Leadership at OU. Problems I see with this Person Center Planning are an area to shine in the Academic world. Show where people have left common sense in the application of academic knowledge: Example of splitting tablets. Options that is most likely to occur. What is the best solution? Does the pharmacy graduate think about trying these options for the patient that has no funds? What does the school show the student to do? Does the pharmacist really have time to execute academic knowledge in real world situations? How can a pharmacist access communication barriers such as hearing, literacy, and social barriers? How is this program going to address these issues? 4 Design/Development/Implementation/Maintenance If the executions of the first steps have occurred with the correct care, regard for profession, an enthusiastic spirit of birthing a new adventure, and careful skill, the remaining events should go smooth in clock like fashion. A model that demonstrates a checklist of what a rural residency in pharmacy entails will have been developed. The rural health center on the campus of SWOSU will be in the process of being built or have been completed. The campus will have new programs in the previously mentioned programs. This will have helped to accomplish the funding, relationship building, the mission statement from input of all stockholders, and in this phase more in depth implementation has resulted in a program that stands out in specific ways using low cost marketing methods to advance the advertisement of the health center. Below are some of the resources/ideas that make the program stand out/ services provided by center: Vaccines for Children Program Enrollment and Profile Form – push for all area pharmacists to enroll in program to increase overall vaccination of children. Pharmacists that have learned to sign to speak with deaf customers, completed a basic Spanish course, taking a Person Centered Thinking competency, and been made aware of picture exchanges as well as other communication resources. National Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy Health Literacy Digest Picture Based Activities for English Language Learning http://www.adrc-tae.org/tiki-index.php?page=PersonCentered Example is to create a Person Centered Discharge Plan such as Oregon. http://www.dds.ca.gov/ConsumerCorner/StickerBook.cfm http://www.dds.ca.gov/ConsumerCorner/Publications.cfm http://www.hdadvocates.org/techassist/tap/index.asp http://www.centralmasshealthliteracy.org/ http://www.healthliteracynow.org/ http://library.cdha.nshealth.ca/chpamphlets/http://www.ok.gov/health/ http://www.healthimperatives.org/sphere/about-us http://www.ruralhealthresearch.org/centers.php 5 http://www.myrxadvocate.com/?gclid=CPOHnMWSiLACFYQGRQodGDsfPA https://www.thehitcommunity.org/ http://www.okpolicy.org/ http://tulsa.schusterman.org/resources/resources-links/council-on-foundations http://www.info.com/nonprofit%20training?cb=50&cmp=4439 http://www.compasspoint.org/ http://www.healthimperatives.org/ http://www.ehrdocs.com/careers_AppealsMngmt_Coordinator.php http://www.oklahomafamilynetwork.org/ http://oasis.bowmansystems.com/ http://ok.gov/sde/special-education http://ok.gov/sde/resources http://www.theoatc.org/ http://www.okrehab.org/guide/indexmanual.html http://www.ok.gov/odc/ https://www.americanhealthcareallianceonline.com/About_Main.aspx Integrated – programs to increase awareness for literacy based programs, resources on campus and within the region, workforce programs, and more. By being innovative in showing private providers that are in place to give patients information, the Edward C. Christensen Rural Health Center will set itself apart. The center will launch new services and jobs that stimulate economic growth, decrease health disparities and increase quality of life for customers as well as the professional health care providers. Keeping providers up to date with the necessary data and training so they can continue to assist those in need that come to them will enable this venture to sustain substantial growth without creating jealousy among past groups by decreasing the profits of their domain. It is only by having this type of futuristic planning that this program will rocket forward with the uncertain times ahead. This framework allows for the program to weather theoretical Earth Quakes and Tornadoes Oklahoma is famous for around the nation. I can accomplish these things. My time off has allotted me the luxury of educating myself regarding where to look for information, sources, and forge a number of relationships besides ones I have already gained in over twenty years of a pharmacy career, time teaching, getting a Master’s, twenty plus years working for nonprofits as a volunteer in numerous roles, gaining an appreciation for the patient’s perspective, and as a mother fighting to pave a future for child that faces multiple disabilities. All of these qualities have prepared me for the position of Rural Health Development Coordinator. 6 Other SWOSU Academic areas – Why would we bypass the possible benefits to our own colleagues and students? Utilization of resources on campus or the promotion of these programs is unwise for SWOSU or for continued advancement of our own program. End user person – What is the dynamics of the rural community, family, or person that will be served? Culture make-up? Languages spoken? Educational achievement? Industry base? Other educational options? What tools are available to help us prepare our students in working with this population? How can we set our program apart? The planning for this program will first require research. Indemnifying the mission, stakeholders, customers, and narrowing the focus are the first phase. Second, I would look at the competition and what requirements are mandated by specific programs. AHQR, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, are just a few to start. Oklahoma State Grants Foundations Other Federal Agencies ( Again I have ideas here) Pharmacies Groups Foundations Churches and Faith/Biased Federal Initiates (Also State Office for this) Forming Campus partnerships to further SWOSU and increasing our social equity on campus is another area of planning to explore. There are at least five areas that could be expanded to serve students and possible ground breaking areas for these departments. Public Relations Journalism Social Services Business Writing Services Expansion – Fellowship in Grant Writing Community Nonprofit Administration Setting up state, regional and local meeting to explore the input and needs of health care workers will be necessary. What directions do these stakeholders see us going with our vision? How will this impact the planning, development and implantation? Are they willing to contribute funds? What is Person Center Thinking? What resources are there to help us learn about this to and expand this culture that is prominent in the Federal program thinking to our students and other stakeholders? Check with the Center for Learning and Leadership at OU. http://ddti.unc.edu/pct-training.html http://elpnet.net/person.html http://www.qualitymall.org/directory/dept1.asp?deptid=23#org http://www.communityworks.info/ Problems I see with this Person Center Planning an area to shine in the Academic world. Design/Development/Implementation/Maintenance If the executions of the first steps have occurred with the correct care, regard for profession, enthusiastic spirit of birthing a new adventure, and careful skill, the remaining events should go smooth in clock like fashion. By being innovative in showing private providers that are in place to give patients information the Edward C. My time off has allotted me the luxury of educating myself regarding where to look for information, sources, and forge a number of relationships besides ones I have already gained in over twenty years of a pharmacy career, time teaching, getting a Master’s and working for nonprofits as a volunteer in numerous .

he 65 Imperial
by Sandra Lynn Mallo Adcock

Dad purchased a used 1965 Imperial in the summer of 1974. Did he take it to the Body Shop to be repainted a nice sleek tan color? Of course not! He had four children; ages 12 to 19 that could help him strip and paint it.

They stripped the "yuck" off using fine sandpaper and a tone ribbed sandpaper to smooth out the top layer. It took a lot to get the ugly heavy dark black color off.

After all the paint was taken removed, two primer coats had to be gotten off too. The final layer of smooth Earth Dirt Shade was brushed on carefully. If there were any bubbles or brush marks noticed, Dad made us re-sand and re-do the paint job in that area. After a couple of times, one learned how to do it correctly.

It seemed like hard work at the time painting the car, but I will always remember that Earth Dirt Shade. My brother Keith liked the term Russet but I like the term Earth Dirt Shade. Along with the painting lessons, we took away the enjoyment of team dynamics. We cemented our family-hood of sibling-hood through by working together to achieve a goal on a pre-vacation task. We understood that if we did not do the painting of the car, there would be no vacation. All of this from painting a car the color of dirt,

Then came the long awaited vacation. By painting the Imperial and buying a 65, we saved enough to go to Mount Rushmore and the South Dakota Black Hills. We stopped at grocery stores to get things to make our dinners and used an ice chest. These few corners cut allowed us to have a vacation and form familial bonds along with special memories most of my friends missed. I remember sanding the Imperial, but right along with it goes the summer vacation where all my cousins envied me for having a father that let us do neat things they never got to do. I really see how much of a sacrifice our parents made for us. They could have bought new cars, left us with grandma and gone on vacation without us, like most of our friends did.

Crick

“Do you want to go to the CRICK?” my cousin asked.  We were in the mid upper part of Wisconsin.   There is a definite Yankee accent here; or, as my father called it the ‘Northern northly forked tongue.’
My cousin had blonde hair and blue eyes.  She looked like a person of Swedish decent. She might as well have been.  My friend, Kathy, looked at me.  I looked at her.  We were both wondering what she meant by, “Do you want to go the C-R-I-C-K?” The two of us had lived most of our lives in the South, in Oklahoma.  A Crick was something you got in your neck or a noise that a piece of furniture made.
Staying around the farm again didn’t seem like much fun so I ventured a few guesses in my head.  Could this mean a trip to the store? A walk down the farm road lane or the one across the main highway?  That was something we had already done a few thousand times.  It was getting late so I knew it had to be something we could do in the dark.
Kathy’s head was spinning and spitting up guesses just as fast as mine.  I wondered, in between my brain work, what she thought.  Boy these Northern folk can sure be weird with their talking sometimes.
Almost in unison we both said, “CRICK?”
My cousin said, “Sure the CRICK.  Haven’t you city guys ever been to a crick before?  We will make sure you are okay and don’t fall in!”
Finally, we knew what she meant; and said together, “The C-R-E-E-E-K.”

Dee a Diva of Autism in Oklahoma

Dee Blose is Oklahoma’s premier Autism Diva.  She knows all there is to know about Autism.  If it is here in Oklahoma and available she knows about it and she has her hands in it.  She has devoted her life to helping people connect to services and families navigate the Autism River without drowning.
I met Dee at a workshop she was giving for the Oklahoma Autism Network.  She was telling about her story.  She has a son named David. He is now twenty years old.  She had to struggle a little more than some of the younger mothers do now.  There are a few more resources on hand now, in part thanks to Dee.
Dee understood me from the start. Dee could feel what I felt. She reached into my heart and took my hurt away.  She knew what to say to me.  She could redirect my anger and make it a positive.  She forgives readily.  I told her of a teacher, a coach that had worked wonders with my son.  I said I wrote a story about what he had done.  She asked me to send it to her and she had it published in an Autism newsletter.
Dee gives of herself.  She shapes events.  She writes grants.  She is the head of Canadian Youth and Family Services, a County agency in Oklahoma. Dee has written a children’s book on Autism.  She is on the Oklahoma Autism Network Board. She does workshops for the Network.   She helps with the Canadian Valley Family Autism Support Group.
Yet, she had time to take me under her wing.  When I was angry and very upset, she seemed to wrap her arms around me and guide me through a period in my life that I was very vulnerable. I feel she is a mentor to me. Dee is helping me find my place in the volunteer world of Oklahoma Autism.   She knows that keeping my family together is important.  Finding time to give and still keep my family together is important.
What else can I say?  Dee is selfless.  Dee is knowlegable.  Dee is fun. Dee is ever learning. Dee is tireless.  Dee seems to have Autism magic and sprinkles it around with a wand of ABA technique that a predestined or predetermined cause.  She just has a twinkle in her mind’s eye that recognizes what’s to be.
She inspired me to write.  I don’t know if she meant to do this.  Sometimes I think I shall quit.  But, then I think she saw something in me.  Dee has an ability to discern things in people.  I am not saying I will be a great writer but that writing is a talent that I shall try to develop if only for helping me with my son with Autism.  I do know and will not back down on this, which Dee is very talented and deserves a crown as a one of Oklahoma’s, if not the, Autism Diva’s.

Learning the Memories  by Sandra Lynn Mallo Adcock

Is being reminded the same as being remembered? That would be so much more kind if that was the case. Yet, truthfully how many reminders does it take to make a memory? Did you always do chores on time, home work, or other things that took reminders? Memories are usually made in an instance or out of loved routines. I remember "Sandy dishes," out of a hatred of chores and trying to escape it. Still, it took twice as long to learn the time to do dishes as the recipe for French toast!

I devoured Space facts but often must check my grammar and spelling three times. Being reminded, means you really would rather forget because it's a bother to commit to storing it to memory. A memory is usually, if one does not need a reminder, formed from a strong association. My father could be a strong disciplinarian and set strong boundaries for us. However, we played hard and all together. I have two brothers and a sister. Even when we did chores, thanks to Mom, we had fun between the four of us. She put out a set amount of money around the house where we were supposed to do our chores. She knew how well we had cleaned by the money found.

Now if are talking about objects we buy or keep as reminders being the same as memories, that is a different question. In that case reminders are not the same as being remembered. The objects jog our memories of a sweeter time when life was uncomplicated by time that marches on or the heaviness of adulthood.

Being remembered is that the same thing as a reminder? I suppose an object or the something it does can jog someone's memory of me. I have been told this before. Often children remind their
parents of themselves because of their looks and mannerisms.

I will be remembered as a reminder this way only if my son has kids. If this happens, there will be generations of people remembered, maybe not in name but in cumulative stories of reminders of traits passed down through families. Thus, I would say in the final analysis over all, reminders are the same as being remembered if you have a family.

The last case where a reminder can be the same as being remembered, is if a person gets in the history books for some reason, writes, or becomes famous for something. Here is where an object becomes a reminder and this reminds the person holding it about the person that is famous for it. Is this one reason we all want to write? Do we seek to be immortalized in writing? Do we wish to remind the world we want to be remembered? These are the answers you hold within yourself.

“You can bring a horse to water but you can’t make it drink!” Have you heard this axiom? Do you agree with the precept of the metaphor? Disagree or have a different analysis? Which of these two words would you pick to describe yourself given a choice between only creative and conformist? I plugged in the allegory and interpretation resulting in the recognizable conformist showing up. Revelations of forcing events is a bad idea that doesn’t work.
Did you describe yourself with the word creative or agree with most of the recognizable conformists? How could there be another slant on this? Fasten your seat belts and get ready to step in to another mind that might have a different rate of deliver of electric impulses from synapse to synapse in the brain due to a higher or lower concentration of glucose dependent on the dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, glutamate, gamma-amino butyric acid and the other neurotransmitters. The last sentence is one hypothesis for the deviation in data ending with the slant on this metaphor but there are too many variables to account for in this scenario. Sandra Lynn Mallo Adcock’s mother and family always said Sandra was Sandra after all.
A slant of giving the horse an IV was a simple solution to a refusal on the beast’s part. Then this is no longer a metaphor you argue? Wait a moment! What this represents to me in “parable speak’ is people give up too easy. I actually had this conversation of late.
Poetry is an art I dabbled in the last five years for some therapeutic value. Stephen Nowicki and Marshall Duke wrote a book Helping the Child Who Doesn’t Fit In in which they coined the phrase dyssemia describing children that had trouble deciphering body language.
Learning about this and reading the book inspired me to write the poem posted below. Hopefully it allows you further glimpses of my thought process occurring forever turning over under top to left ear then right eye.
Dyssemic Society
Our OUR Society is going-the wrong way today.
Do we say what we mean? Do we mean what we say?
We have so much more,
Cell phones, cars, computers, cards for the atm. We have more things to give,
But cannot seem to live.
As a child,
I was seldom idle.
This did cause few to glimpse me with guile,
Yet, this never seemed to stop me from running miles.
Blessed to have my parents,
For they knew children’s rants,
Perfect they were not,
A safe bet for me, I am thankful for what I got.
Society says be yourself, But you must do it this way. Speak your mind,
But always be kind.
Everyone is not the same,
We must accept them.
But, we will put them,
In this special pen to meet their needs.
Be innovative.
Be motivated.
No boat rocking. No socking it to um.
2
Find one thing to focus on,
And do it good.
No, not that focused.
You have to right and give others a break.
You need to be right,
Search for the truth to get along.
Then it is wrong,
To be right and have to play get along.
Does anyone see the complexity,
Of this ridiculousness?
In the process of teaching one that is inflexible, To be flexible by being inflexible?
Is communication being imprecise,
The responsibility of most society?
The person or child that really does see all?
Or the society that says this is not right or cannot comprehend what the other sees?
Society says a child or person can’t, This person or child knows can. Seems that Society
Has a Dyssemic Condition to me.
Now imagine,
One that doesn’t know,
The how or why,
Behind his or her eye in the mind.
Then one day Society,
Says no this is the way.
Society’s Dyssemic Condition,
Often leads some to personal destruction and then blames it on personal dysfunction.
Are you ready to accompany me on my exploration of personal leadership? Did you fasten your seat belt? Let me thank you for your time you are taking to examine another person’s thoughts and perceptions about leadership on a personal and vocational/professional level as it relates to this management course.
Concepts to be inspected will be from the textbook Leadership Theory, Application & Skill Development. The Big Five which is a cluster of personality classifications to help zero in on management styles impacted on things within the clusters like communication. How to motivate, lead with and apply types of power in specified events and when participatory decision making with teams can be a drawback are some examples of things to mull over. Skill Assessment and Self-Assessment Exercises have been assigned as part of this examination process and the results will be discussed or referenced in an appendix.
Then nature of an organization’s culture and impression it can have on innovation is important. I will explain how this made me decide to withdraw going with a one man band show. I will wind up an explanation of my belief due to experiences in the end.
Throughout the class I have voiced a concern for the use of psychology in business. Putting a pretty face on politics concerns me. I see no way of legitimizing this process in an organization or justifying it. By the very process one person or party may lose generating negative feelings which can become engrained in the culture which is a powerful monster for good and bad.
I plan to expound on my distaste for having an ethics matrix to make decision and if my business to prospers I plan never to use these guides on instruments.

Classmates quotes from discussions and/or IGD may be used in this paper. Outside articles will be peppered in to break up the boredom. I hope this journey finds you with another view or concept to consider in the future as I have taken away from this course. It has been an extremely pleasant surprise to my expectations. My classmates and instructor have paraded their very “business soul” and it has been an honor to walk with them this semester.

Transition Hints! Don't Blame Schools, Hold All Accountable

Keep Your Special One in Mind First

1.  Read the book, "Your Child Is Smarter Than You Think," by Wanda

     Draper Ph.D.

2.  Find a person to ask if they really know about resources.  If they can

     answer these questions that follow they might know a thing or two;

     my opinion for  sure!

          >What does NCII stand for, what is it, and is it worth using?

          >NCPD?  Does the one for those with disabilities differ?  Do those

that do what it doesn't want them to come from boredom,

feeling a lack of respect, a waste of time and feeling of being

given useless information regardless of level, disability or other?

My father gave me this answer thirty years ago.

3.  Figure out what ODEP http://www.dol.gov/odep/ is.

4.  Find out what O*NET is http://www.onetonline.org/.

5.  Here in Oklahoma the Head Transition Specialist it Kim Osmani with

OKDRS; email kosmani@okdrs.gov and I believe her office contact info is

       A few questions for her?

If OKDRS says Transition should start as soon as possible; Why do
services have to wait to start with to start until a person is 16?
Why has she as the head Transition specialist done little Benchmarking
against other surrounding states to see where Oklahoma falls?  See what
       innovations Oklahoma may be missing?
How come no workshops are done for middle school parents explaining
online job inventory interests such as jobfit
http://www.swwdb.org/JobFit/jobFit1.html? Taking the IEP and making it         a live working document? No money?  She could do a video workshop on         line in virtual time or leave on DRS website.  She did one already. Then
send out information to the school systems.
Does Osmani understand Designer Employment?  You want to know more         send me the question as a post.  I am happy to help.

6.   Here is a website that should help                                                             also,  https://directconnectnh.org/careerlattice.html.

7.   Here is another good place to turn, http://www.ncwd-
youth.info/ksa/demo.  A PDF can be obtained here called, "PAVING THE      WAY TO WORKA Guide to Career-Focused Mentoring for
     Youth w/Disabilities."

8.  A new source I have stumbled across called the Lead Center      at, http://www.leadcenter.org/webinars/promoting-
     leadership-cross-agency-approaches-advance-use-
     customized-employment-and-self-employment-strategies.

9.  I want to give so much.  I will have to wait for another blog.
Henceforth, I am going with the new today.  Be sure please         to ask those charged with knowing this information if they
do first before you inform this, including Sooner Success.
Why?  My point is best use of tax dollars.  The info I am
giving you cost nothing as in increase in tax dollars.   Thus, a       priority in connecting parents, and teachers to these seems
obvious.  In accounting they are known as SUNK COSTS!          Check out, https://www.opressrc.org/.

10. Do you know what STEM is? Is it this;
      http://www.k20cetc.org/stemplan.pdf? Or, a PDF of
